ALL SUMMER IN A DAY – Ray Bradburg

Introduction:

The title of the story “All summer in a day” is rather funny while it is true. The summer season normally costs for 3 or 4 months. It comes every year. But in Venus the summer comes once in every 7 years. It lasts for an hour or two. It is really a strange summer.

Margot’s poem:

“I think the sun is a flower

That blooms for just one hour

Margot said:

It’s like a penny

It’s like a fire in the stove

The conflict:

Margot came to Venus just 4 years ago. Other children had arrived when they were two years old. Margot was a pale, thin girl with snow like skin. She had recently joined the school in Venus. She felt like a fish out of water. She was not interested in playing with any of them in the tunnels of the underground city. She did not join the class in singing or games. Margot was neglected by the school children in Venus Margot was totally different from others as she was different Heavenly experience: When the sun did appear, the children in Venus were amazed. The sun was very large and red in colour. The sky around it was blue. The children enjoyed the sunlight. They felt the heat of the sun. They looked at the Sun till tears ran down their faces. It was a heavenly experience for the children.

It became true:

The children lived in the planet Venus realized the truth about the sun. Their attitude towards the Sun and Margot were totally changed.

Conclusion:

The sun brought positive change in the attitude of the children. At the end of the story, all the children looked at each other and their faces were pale and solemn. They seem to be very pathetic towards Margot. They walked over to the closet. They unlocked the door slowly and let Margot out. “Seeing is believing”.
