ALL THE WORLD’S A STAGE – William Shakespeare

Introduction:

William Shakespeare is an English poet playwright and actor. He is widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and the world’s greatest dramatist. He is often called” England’s National poet”. He died at the age of 52.

Seven ages:

Shakespeare divides the life stages into seven ages. They are,

Infant

School boy

Lover

Soldier

Judge

Old man

Second childhood

Infant:

The first stage of human life is infant. He cries inconsolably, messes up the nurse’s hand and challenges the patients of the mother.

School boy:

The second stage of human life is school boy. He shows unhappiness in going to school.He goes to school unwillingly like a snail.

Lover:

He keeps growing. As he reached his adolescent age, he becomes romantic. The opposite sex attract him. He will be writing woeful poem for his beloved praising the beauty of his mistress eyebrow.

Soldier:

He has full of strange oaths. He keeps a beard like that of a leopard. He wants to be a good man and takes great care of his honour. He gets angry quickly and ready to quarrel. He is ready to enter into a cannon’s mouth just for glory and bubble reputation.

Judge:

With maturity and wisdom he becomes a fair judge with a round belly by eating good chicken. He is firm and serious in his thoughts and actions. He tells wise sayings and modern instances to show his wisdom.

Old man:

He is seen with loose pantaloons and spectacles. His manly voice changes into a childish treble.

Second childhood:

He appears and behaves like a child. For every small thing in his day today life he seeks a helping hand from others. It is an age of forgetfulness.

Conclusion:

Shakespeare says all the world is a stage. All the men and women are merely players. Life is the play. We enter the play when we are born, we exist from the stage when we die.
