Theme: Test of honesty

Characters
1) Robert Baldwin – The protagonist
2) Martha – Baldwin’s wife.

Introduction
Robert Baldwin was an honest and upright man, worked under John Gresham in the bank. John Gresham and Robert Baldwin had been tick friends for over 30 years. Robert Baldwin named his son after Johan Gresham as John. Robert Baldwin worked under John Gresham as a personal secretary. He was very loyal and upright to John Gresham. He led a very simple and humble life with his wife Martha and hid son John and daughter Evie.

A man of principles:
Robert Haldwin was a man of noble principles. He was a sincere, hardworking and an honest employee. He had good relationship with his family members and friends. Though he was a middle aged man, he was a man of good virtues. He was kind loyal to others. He was not ready to make any kind of compromise with his morality.

A bribe of 1,00,000 dollars:
John Gresham, the head man of the bank misused the money of the depositors in his bank. So he was arrested by the police. And he was under the police custody. Robert Baldwin was asked to tell the truth. John Gresham was ready to offer 1,00,000 dollars as a bribe. He wanted or expected Robert Baldwin’s support, just to say the three words I don’t remember to come out of this disaster.

Importance to truthfulness:
Martha, John and Evie were forcing Robert Baldwin to accept 100,000 dollars to support Mr. John Gresham. But Robert was not for 100,000 dollars but for truthfulness. The particular bank was closed. Robert had no work at all. No one wanted John Gresham to be punished But Robert didn’t like to be a liar. He did not like to compromise with wrong things.

Conclusion:
Truthfulness had changed the whole situation. John Gresham accepted his mistake. He was convinced. Honesty, sincerity and truthfulness saved the life of Robert Baldwin. Mr. Marshall offered Robert Baldwin a job in his bank ‘The Third International’. ‘ The hour of truth’ won in the end.
